AN IRIS FIELD

This gallery presents a selection of my botanical illustrations created for the ongoing project "An Iris Field". Since 2016, I have been travelling each year — mostly to eastern Türkiye — to observe irises in their natural habitats. These field journeys allow me to work directly from living plants, documenting their form, colour and character with scientific accuracy. Each year I am able to complete illustrations of three to four species. My long-term hope is to encounter and illustrate all the irises that grow in Türkiye — a country that hosts around forty-four distinct iris taxa. Some of the works shown here have also been created for scientific publications, including the Illustrated Flora of Turkey. The gallery includes illustrations of both well-known species and newly described species and subspecies. Please note that all Latin and Turkish scientific names of the species follow the "Illustrated Flora of Turkey". The original artworks from this series are held in various collections, primarily in Türkiye and the United Kingdom. Selected works from the project are also available as limited-edition prints.
