At the 2014 RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) botanical art show, which took place at the Lindley Hall, London, from 11th to 12th April, I was delighted to be awarded another RHS gold medal for my exhibited works. These works included detailed study of Gunnera tinctoria , which was awarded ‘Best Botanical Painting in Show’. This is also the second time I have received this prestigious medal from the RHS, the previous occasion being in 2010 for Araucaria araucana, a study of the ‘monkey puzzle’ tree. This year’s exhibition attracted 27 participants from all around the world. After 3 years of preparative sketches, followed by 3 months of work on the formal piece of artwork, Gunnera tinctoria was finally ready to meet the judges and to be exhibited for public viewing. I was thrilled to have my perseverance rewarded with these medals.
