Nepal Project: Artists to Kathmandu
All these illustration in this gallery were prepared for the project ‘Nepal Project: Artists to Kathmandu’ between 2015 – 2016.
This collaborative project was aiming to celebrate historic and contemporary artworks by connecting the past and the present. This connection started at the very beginning of the 19th century with Dr. Francis Buchanan Hamilton who trained in botany at RBGE, and continues to the present day with the publication of the Flora of Nepal.
We are six botanical artists associated with The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh involved in tis project and travelled to Kathmandu for a month to look for our selected plants which are of ethnobotanical importance or conservation status concern.
These illustrations by six of us and some historic illustrations were exhibited in Edinburgh and Kathmandu in 2016. Original artworks are in private collections, mostly in Edinburgh.
