With the arrival of spring, I set off travelling again to find beautiful plants native to Chile, now growing in various locations across the United Kingdom. This particular trip centred on different Berberis species held in gardens throughout Great Britain.
My first aim was to paint Berberis valdiviana, so I visited Nymans Garden, situated to the south-west of London. I genuinely enjoy not only encountering remarkable plants from around the world but also visiting such extraordinary gardens — the journey is always worthwhile. During my stay at Nymans, I was hosted by Paulina Hechenleitner, one of the co-authors of the book.
This was, of course, a marathon effort across several Berberis species, and so I then flew to Scotland to catch the flowering period of Berberis negeriana and Berberis rotundifolia.
