2022 Gardens of Gökova, with Labofem

In Labofem's garden and glass greenhouse, we will meet plants from both local and Labofem collections under the guidance of Fem Güçlütürk, and we will choose and paint together the plants that we will use during the lesson.

This is a 5-day Botanical Illustration Workshop with Işık Güner. We will be selecting our plant materials under the botanical guidance of Fem Güçlütürk and we will have a chance to visit Labofem Garden and the glass house.

In the fishing town of Akyaka, known for the creeks of the Gulf of Gökova, geese, ducks, Mediterranean seals, blue crabs and the rich flora of the Muğla region, Nail Çakırhan, who shaped the architecture of the region, in the museum-house preserved as an example of Akyaka architecture, with Işık Güner for 5 days. Painting Workshop. In Labofem's garden and glass greenhouse, we will meet plants from both local and Labofem collections under the guidance of Fem Güçlütürk, and we will choose and paint together the plants that we will use during the lesson.

This workshop is aimed to show you the basic techniques of watercolour used in botanical illustrations.

You will learn how to draw plants accurately by observing basic botanical shapes and structures and illustrating them with botanical accuracy, focusing on developing your ability to; see shapes; judge angles; draw in proportion; represent form through tonal value; use light and shade to make your drawing life-like; use watercolour washes and mix colours.

During this workshop plants and its parts, colors and textures will be examined in detail. You will find opportunity to work on different types of leaves, flowers and its fine details.

This workshop will help you to combine scientific accuracy with an aesthetic vision to create beautiful botanicals.

Recommended Material List:


1.   Drawing Pencil (2H, HB, 2B, 4B)
2.   Divider
3.   Eraser
4.   Sharpener
5.   Tracing Paper

6.  Sketching paper (Smooth surface Cartridge paper or pad, 120-160 g/s, A3 or A4 size)

7.   A range of Watercolour brushes (Number 4, 3 or 2, and some small number of brushes will be useful for fine details)
8.   Palette 
9.   Watercolour pigments (Winsor&Newton Artists’ Value is recommended but any pigment you prefer to use)

10.   Watercolour Paper (Minimum 300 g/s, Hot Pressed, 50-100% Cotton watercolour paper is recommended, but don’t hesitate the one you like to use.

11.  Backboard (if possible)
