The plant was collected in Osmaniye during the fieldwork for the "Illustrated Flora of Turkey". The type specimen of this species, described in 1854, was lost in Vienna during the WW II. The specimen collected from Osmaniye in 2020, locally known as 'tahta çirişi', was considered a good representative of the species and was therefore designated as the 'neotype' in 2021.
