Işık has travelled across the diverse landscapes of Turkey many times, studying wild plants, some of which are endemic to small areas. She will share her experiences in the field and her journey finding, sketching, and illustrating some of the many wild plants of Turkey. She will also share tips for working in the field and how such work can lead to a complete scientific illustration.
Işık has been a botanical artist for many years. She has been involved in many projects, such as Plants from the Woods and Forests of Chile, The Beauty of Orchids – China, Plants of Nepal, and Transylvania Florilegium. Her educational book Botanical Illustration from Life has recently been published in six languages: Turkish, English, Spanish, French, Korean, and Chinese. She is currently working on her second book, Habitat. She works as a tutor on the Diploma in Botanical Illustration at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and as an art editor of the Illustrated Flora of Turkey.
