10x10 - Particles of Life - Istanbul Concept Gallery

Istanbul Concept Gallery's new exhibition Particles of Life opens on Thursday, 12 September. Curated by Işık Gençoğlu, this is the fifth instalment of the gallery's 10×10 Exhibition Series. The exhibition runs until 12 October and presents 10 works by each of 10 artists — 100 works in total.

The 10×10 Exhibition Series offers a kind of "mini retrospective" for each participating artist, bringing them face to face with the audience and closing the distance between creator and viewer. Since the gallery's opening in 2017, the series has returned five times, each edition built around a theme that asks us to remember what matters. The first exhibition, New Stories, explored the idea that no life is greater than another; subsequent editions addressed the importance of dreaming, the impossibility of existing without hope, and the possibility of becoming a hero without waiting for one.

Particles of Life reminds us that humankind is but a single particle in the universe — and invites us to recognise the existence of all the other particles around us. Questioning the diversity of life on earth and humanity's place within it, the exhibition poses a quiet but searching question: are you really as important as you think you are?

Particles of Life is on view at Istanbul Concept Gallery from 12 September to 12 October 2019.
