Endless! Evin Art Gallery

Endless! Evin Art Gallery

Evin Art Gallery is hosting a group exhibition titled Endless!, curated by Nihal Elvan Erturan, from 6 September to 26 October 2019. Participating artists are Vahap Avşar, Konstantin Bojanov, Ergin Çavuşoğlu, Ahmet Elhan, Işık Güner, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Nasip İyem, Ekin Saçlıoğlu and Tuğçe Ulugün Tuna.

Inspired by the "Seventh Continent" concept of the 16th Istanbul Biennial, Endless! is built upon a multi-layered web of ideas traversing past, present and future, old and new, and the ever-accumulating "trash of humanity" piling up in the middle of the ocean. At a time when the end of universal values, ideologies, history, nature and art has been proclaimed, the exhibition attempts to revisit modernism as a progressive movement pointing towards "the new".

Nine artists comment on history, the present, the self, the body and nature — working with contemporary materials and techniques while reflecting on modern times through both their origins and their aftermath. Vahap Avşar, Konstantin Bojanov, Ergin Çavuşoğlu, Ahmet Elhan, Işık Güner, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Nasip İyem, Ekin Saçlıoğlu and Tuğçe Ulugün Tuna fill the entire gallery space with paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and performances.

Endless! examines the ways in which the rapid and transformative changes of recent centuries have altered artists' perceptions of time and their modes of questioning, while seeking new ways of establishing relationships between nature and the body. It bears witness to the moment when "everything" — that which we treat as if it will last forever — returns to us, generating layered meanings, questions and problems.

The exhibition catalogue will be presented on Saturday, 28 September at 3 pm. Throughout the exhibition, performances curated by Tuğçe Ulugün Tuna will take place every Friday.

Performance artists: Ekin Ançel, Ufuk Fakıoğlu, Ekin Önce, Hilal Sibel Pekel, Tuğçe Ulugün Tuna and Diren Ezgi Yıldızkan.

Endless! is on view at Evin Art Gallery until 26 October 2019.
